Esquire: Is the poster for the new season of Mad Men a desecration? Or just how we continue to reckon with 9/11?
Mad Men Season 5 Poster Controversy - Falling (Mad) Man, by Tom Junod

I’ve always thought the entire Mad Men opening credits sequence was out of whack, let alone this poster. I like the show, but aside from the great music, it’s one of the dumbest openers out there because-
It uses image icons of advertising of the past era (50s and before) as a reference point, when the whole thrust of the show is about Draper being a part of the 60s creative revolution (Bernbach, et al.) and the changes in American culture as a whole.
It doesn’t show the stars, or really even the setting.
It’s busy and out of line with the whole minimalist, streamlined aesthetic of the show. And most egregiously…
It rips of Saul Bass’s work in Vertigo. Badly.
